Every year, U.S. landfills and trash incinerators receive 167 million tons of garbage. And more than 50% of trash left at the curb is compostable and studies say that 40% of the food that we grow in the United States is wasted.

What The Company Does

Blue Earth Compost is tackling the enormous issue of food ending up in landfills and incinerators. They make composting accessible to homes, businesses, and municipalities by offering collection services. Blue Earth Compost helps its clients separate the material out from the trash stream by giving them right-sized containers and helpful guidance.

Business Model

Blue Earth Compost generates revenue from collections/hauling and compost sales.

Traction

The company had $809k in revenue in 2021. Blue Earth Compost has a 98% New Customer Retention Rate, while 90%+ say they would recommend them to friends and neighbors. Right now, they company composts about 4,000 tons of food scraps per year, but in Connecticut alone about 540,000 tons are generated. Blue Earth Compost services 240 commercial locations and 1,500 households. 

Founding Team Background

Blue Earth Compost is led by Alex Williams and Samuel King. Alex serves as the team’s CEO and brings years of sustainability knowledge to Blue Earth. He recently received the Northeast Recycling Council’s Environmental Sustainability Leadership Award. Samuel King is the team’s CFO and Director of Business Development and has been a massive reason why Blue Earth is one of the premier food scrap haulers in New England.
