The Capital Network — Fundraising Education For All Founders

About The Capital Network

The Capital Network (TCN) is a non-profit that helps democratize access to funding in the Greater Boston area and beyond. TCN provides practical, hands-on education, and personalized mentoring from investors and experts to help demystify the funding process to thousands of early-stage entrepreneurs. TCN wants all entrepreneurs to make informed decisions for their businesses by giving them the resources and education they need and the network to make it happen. Since 2016, TCN has run the Fellowship For Female Founders to help women raising funds own their raise. They’ve supported more than 60 women (50% BIPOC), who have raised more than $15.5M.

Female Founders Demo Day 2021

Last week, TCN hosted its first ever demo day for female founders. Marie Meslin, Executive Director at TCN filled us in ahead of the event:

“I am so excited to host our 1st Demo Day at The Capital Network , but the truth of it is I don’t really like demo days as it’s usually an overblown event full of bravado and performance. We really wanted to give our female founders more support and our investors more insight than a typical demo day situation.

So we partnered with Allison Byers, one of our 2020 fellows (and a Storied alum) to use her platform Scroobious for all founders to create a five minute pitch video all investors will receive ahead of time so we can use the event for a short Q&A between the founders and one of their champions. That way investors not only get to know the founder and business a little better but also get to see why one of their champions believes in the business so much. At the heart of it we are a community organization looking to help all entrepreneurs own their story, numbers and network. We want to do that in a thoughtful and supportive way, especially as TCN grows and expands its impact.”
