Host — Inclusive Social And Virtual Experiences

The Problem

Organizations are constantly trying to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive community given the evolving landscape of remote and hybrid world. A recent report from the tech website Built In found that companies are more likely to have a CEO named “John” or “David” than to have a woman CEO. The report also found that racially and ethnically diverse companies are 35% more likely to perform better, while inclusive companies are 1.7 times more innovative.

What The Company Does

Host initially launched as a platform to connect bartenders with corporate events. But the coronavirus pandemic put a dent in that plan, forcing the company to be agile and adapt quickly. Now, Host is focused on developing custom culture programs and creating virtual experiences for its clients. Host offers live on-line, fully-customizable experiences led by industry-leading experts. Host also sends pre-made kits will all materials to participants as part of their “white glove service.” Events have ranged from cultural trivia, international mixology nights, and culinary experiences celebrating Black History Month. For March, Host has been celebrating Women’s History by featuring a new beer release called “Tell Me I Can’t” — a beer created by women to support women in the industry and Women’s History Trivia. Experiences can be custom curated to meet the needs and goals of each client.

Market

The market is new, untapped, and proving to grow larger and larger during this pandemic. In 2019, prior to the pandemic, the global market size of the virtual events space was estimated to be more than $77B, according to Grand View Research. Host also says it’s an industry expert in hybrid events, which combine components of virtual and in-person events, and will be a growing theme in the event space moving forward. Host is competing with the likes of AirBnB, Thriver, and other virtual experience platforms.

Business Model

The company charges per event and kits that come with events are an additional fee. Host also allows clients to book culture plans that include recurring monthly or quarterly events.

Traction

Host has hosted more than 950 virtual experiences for more than 500 companies, servicing over 45,000 individuals since its pivot in March of 2020. The company has partnered with local Boston Vendors, Revco, VDV, and other national vendors like Snack Magic, Panera Bread, Poppy Flowers Brooks Winery, and breweries to help deliver a seamless experiences. Host was also featured on The Today Show.
